Dynamic Duo

Laura Byrnes and Masuimi Max are definitely two of my favorite artists. While I haven't had the pleasure of working with Laura, Masuimi and sassyNpunk have had 3 awesome photoshoots together! I may be wrong, but I believe Laura Byrnes only photographs for her own company, Pin Up Couture. While my dream of working with her may never come true, I can still enjoy the work her and Masuimi produce for Pin Up Couture and enjoy stalking them both online! ;)

Lisa Luxe : Tattooed Pin Up Extraordinaire

Great things really do come in small packages! Just ask, Lisa Luxe, the pocket sized pin up who's got a little more than experience under her belt. Lisa has been featured in tons of publications (both online and in print), she's a spokes model for companies like Vintage Suits by Mary and sassyNpunk, to name a few... and even does runway. Yep, this little pinup has got major modeling chops, and I recently got to ask her a few questions about what makes her so awesome! Here's what I found out:

What's your professional name and how did you come up with it?

"Lisa Luxe, suggested by a friend and it sounded good!"

When did you decide to start modeling and why? 

"I started about three years ago, I didn't really decide to start, it was an opportunity that I took advantage of and had a blast so I continued to persue it."

Did you consider yourself "beautiful" growing up? 

"Physically not so much, as a person, I suppose yes. . . I try to be as considerate and caring as I can."

What is your greatest accomplishment to date? 

"The fact that I found such an amazing man to marry and I didn't let him get away. . . "

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 

"Happy. I never would have guessed in my wildest dreams five years ago, that I would be where I am today. . . so I'm just going with the flow and taking advantage of every opportunity that comes my way!"

Do you wear you sassyNpunk products? 

"Of course! I especially love my custom "Luxe" Pendant!"

Get to know Masuimi Max

Masuimi Max is a professional model, burlesque performer and infamous troublemaker among other things. You might know her as the spokes model for PinUp Girl Clothing and other companies. Besides modeling and performing she has a growing interest in acting, some of the films you can see her in are State of the Union and a film by David Lynch called Inland Empire. In 2011, she joined the sassyNpunk family, and we couldn't be more thrilled! I recently got to ask her a few questions, and here's a what I found out...

 


When did you decide to start modeling and why?

"I wanted to be a lot of things when I was a kid, but my earliest memory is one of me prancing down the aisle at church as if I was on a catwalk and my mother and father being truly horrified. LOL."

 Did you consider yourself "beautiful" growing up?

"No. I was constantly picked on as a child. My father was in the airforce and we were constantly moving all over the place. I moved a lot before highschool and never quite fit.. everything that turned out good for me was bad growing up. LOL. Seriously, I was picked on for having big lips, slanty eyes and small nose.. I guess I looked like a cabage patch kid, ha ha!"

What is your greatest accomplishment to date?

"I'm not sure how to answer that question because I have had a lot of great things happen in my life and it's hard to narrow it down to one thing or instance. :-) I guess the thing I am most proud of is that I deal with things in a more positive way now, I'm always learning and I never settle on what I know."

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

"The next 5 years; I'm working on my makeup company, lingerie line and shoe line! I'm also working on a tv pilot, I hope it gets picked up!"

"YES! I love Sassy N Punk, especially the cute candy necklaces!"

get to know Jesse Pagz: Future Entrepreneur and World Dominator!

sassyNpunk models help us out a lot, and we like to help them out too! Get to know our models and see why we love them. Tonight, you are going to find out what makes alternative glamor model, Jesse Pagz, tick... kinda. I got to ask her a few question recently, and here's what I found out...

What's your professional name and how did you come up with it?
"My professional name is Jesse Pagz. It's basically just a shortened version of my real name. Thanks Mom and Dad!"

When did you decide to start modeling and why? 

"I started modeling when I was fourteen years old and was signed to an agency. I did some promotional modeling and acting as well. It was something I loved to do and was naturally good at. Then, unintentionally, I went on a rather long break and spent most of my time focused on my college education. Somehow I managed to fall back into it, networked, became friends with a lot of talented and wonderful people in the industry, and continue to grow everyday in this profession."

Did you consider yourself "beautiful" growing up? 

"NOT in middle school haha! I think as I've gotten older I've learned what enhances my features and what takes away from them. I appreciate my flaws and realize they are what make me unique! I've definitely grown into my body, but I still have moments where I let my insecurities get the best of me. At the end of the day though, I love being a woman and having curves!!"

What is your greatest accomplishment to date? 

"I'm really proud to have worked with so many amazing photographers, designers, makeup and hair stylists, models, musicians, etc., thus far. I've been able to shoot this year with some of my favorite photographers on Earth such as, Andy Hartmark, Danger Ninja, Chad Michael Ward, Travis Haight, Steve Prue(upcoming). I also had the chance to work with Lip Service, which was a phenomenal experience and was the lead girl in a music video called, "Throat Full of Glass" by Combichrist. I'm really thankful and appreciative of every opportunity that has been given to me and look at all of them as a great accomplishment. I owe much of my success to the people who have given me a chance and had faith in me."

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 

"I would like to have my clothing line up and running and continue styling for commercials and feature films. I'd also like to have more magazines under my belt, maybe even a cover or two! Lastly, I want to have a backyard so my dog could run around and play more often!"

Do you really wear your sassyNpunk products? 

"Luckily, I do!! I wear my Star Wars Darth Vader Necklace all the time. Leyla is a great person and runs her business really well. I love love love sassyNpunk jewelry!"

Designers & Artists I admire

Being an artist means you have to live up to certain expectations. If you all of a sudden fall off the wagon and start sucking, you will eventually fade from your fans' minds. We've seen it happen to the best of them, even Andy Warhol who is considered the most famous artist of the 21st century was falling down a spiral of shame. So what keeps me motivated to do my absolute best and not start sucking?... why other artists, of course! I have tons of women I look up to and admire. Their success helps me succeed, and I just wanted to share a few of them with you.

The first is designer Jessica Louise. Her pieces are fun, sophisticated, and really unique! Below are some of her clothing designs and are available on her website www.JessicaLouise.com and in store around the world.

Karyn Cantor, creator of Classic Hardware Jewelry. Her vintage inspired pieces radiate sophistication and wit, and she is most definitely my favorite jewelry designer at the moment. Just take a look at this Baby PEGACORN Ring... can you say CUUUTE!?

Internationally published portrait photographer Dangerously Dolly. I love the recognizable aesthetic of every one of her pictures. Her work is unforgettable, and I am hoping to work with her one day soon!

 

Modeling rules

We have been getting a lot of inquires from girls wanting to model for sassyNpunk, so i decided I needed to clear a few things up. As stated on the modeling rules page on www.sassyNpunkBoutique.com, we cannot accept photos of you modeling for some other company or any photos from your portfolio. We MUST have photos of you wearing sassyNpunk Boutique merchandise that you have purchased from us. This rule is in place b/c it protects us as a company and it protects our fans too. We cannot just have a hundred girls sending us photos of god knows who and then mail out products to a complete stranger. It is a security risk as well as a financial risk. We must have proof that you are indeed who you say you are and that you are a reliable person who is not just trying to get us to send you free merchandise. You have to buy something with your own money, have yourself professionally photographed, and send us those photos for approval. If we are interested, we will contact you to become a regular model for sassyNpunk. Only after this process is completed will we start sending you products to shoot for us. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Photography - my second love

 

Although i may be considered a design artist or even a sculptor, i have always had a passion for photography. I remember in high school, I used to love going into the library everyday,  when nobody else was there, and me and my best friend would sit in the back and look at the all the amazing pictures in the photography books. I learned more about art and photography from those precious moments siting quietly with my friend than i ever did in the classroom. Some of my favorite images were discovered back in those days. They are what inspire me on daily basis and what motivates me to do my best at everything i do.

Arthur F Kales - The Thirty Nine Steps

The staircase actually contains fewer than thirty nine steps, but in counting the steps Kales manages to focus the viewer's attention on the textures in his photos. Kale's was a specialist in bromoil printing, a process which allowed for considerable inflections of tone and texture. This technique along with a female subject appearing in a dreamlike setting was Kale's specialty.

Martha Graham is the woman pictured in the photo. Her most notable performances and achievements are those of which are photographed and painted by Barbara Morgan.
