Another fun goody! Jennifer Ferguson, the artist behind the Etsy shop Squirrel in the Attic, draws quirky greetings with patterned backgrounds. Her cards are printed on heavy recycled paper and are even cuter in person. I know cuz I've bought some before. I asked Jennifer if she'd pretty please share a print-it-yourself version of one of her cards, and she agreed. It's one of the designs in her 6-card thank you set. (Do you think it would be weird if I mailed it back to her as a thank you?)

Printable business card freebie

I've whipped up another printable template for use as calling cards or business cards. This time it's an argyle motif, so put on your sweater vest and nerd glasses and help yourself.



Choose from orange cards, pink cards, or blue cards.



To use them:

1. Click a link above and save the PDF to your computer. The file may take a moment to download, so please don't hyperventilate if your browser window remains blank for a moment.

2. Optional: The fonts used in the card design are Serif 6 Bold and Regular, available for free right here from Betatype. Download the .zip file and install these fonts on your machine (see here for how to install fonts). If you're not that picky, you can choose not to install the fonts. In that case, your computer will substitute a font when you open the file and it might look just fine.

3. Open the PDF in Adobe Reader (free) and type your information in the text fields.

4. Save.

5. Print the file at 100% on a sheet of white cardstock. Trim with an X-acto knife or scissors, using the crop marks as guides.

Paperless Post electronic invitations

In a blog post about electronic invitations two years ago I mentioned Paperless Post. Since then, they've been adding new card designs and making their site even better. And since then, I've been using their e-cards because they're the loveliest I've seen on the internet. The invitations look letterpressed on fine paper, and you get the virtual experience of opening a pretty envelope. They'll track your guests' responses, send reminders and the whole works—like Evite, only better looking. I'm a fan!

Retro printable card from June Craft

The very same Kayanna Nelson of June Craft from yesterday's post has generously provided awesome downloadable goodies on her blog. Get the printable bird card right here. Or hunt through her posts to find all the free desktop wallpapers sprinkled about. Most are calendar desktops, but I was dying to use them immediately so I Photoshopped over the calendar areas to make them useful for posterity. I've got that bird on my monitor right this minute. Printable calling card freebie

Just for fun I've made you a template for a personal calling card. Apparently social calling cards are making a comeback, so you might want to print up a few to hand out at parties, moms' play groups, to new neighbors, or tuck them into your Christmas cards if you've updated your contact info.

In case you don't like orange because there's something wrong with you, there are two other colors to choose from.

Download orange cards, blue cards, or burgundy cards.

Each design is a PDF file with editable fields for typing. After saving the file to your computer, open the PDF in Adobe Reader (free right here if you don't already have it), type in your information, and print at 100% on a sheet of white cardstock. Trim with an X-acto knife or scissors, using the crop marks as guides. The font used in the name field is Euphorigenic, a free download at MyFonts.com. If you don't feel like going to the trouble of fetching it and installing it on your machine, your computer will substitute a font that might be tolerable to you.

If you need to download and print a freebie greeting card, Canon's Creative Park has over 600 options in both letter and A4 sizes. I'm not a fan of teddy bears and tea roses, but some of the cards feature delightful illustrations. Canon, keep recruiting talented illustrators, please! Especially those of the quirky variety.

Moms, if you're looking for a little craft project to do with the kiddos, try making a print-and-assemble Father's Day card. This lion family is cute.

Printable all-in-one card and envelope

Natalie Jost has designed some printable floral "cardvelopes," a genetically engineered card-envelope hybrid. You know, like a liger, only not as sad. Just print on cardstock, trim, write your message on the blank interior, and fold. They're free for the downloading right here.

Mini bunting birthday card

My latest quickie DIY project: a birthday card with a tiny bunting of miniature flags. If you want to try one, here's how to make it.

Fold a sheet of cardstock into thirds, accordian style. If you want a printed message on your card, run it through your printer before folding.

Cut out strips of colored paper and fold them in half lengthwise. (My strips were about 1" wide.) Cut the folded strips into tiny triangles; they should look like little hinges. Make a few strings of bunting by folding triangles over a cord and gluing both halves together.

With an X-acto knife, cut tiny slits in the folded edge of the cover of your card. Thread one end of each bunting cord through a slit and secure the cord end behind the cover with a piece of tape. Wrap the opposite end of each cord around the cover of the card and secure it in the back with more tape. Then place double stick tape around the edges and center of the back side of the cover and stick the cover to the adjacent panel, hiding the taped ends of your bunting. Round the corners of your card if you like, and you're done.
