the giving season

First off, I want to congratulate our winner of the Cupcake Provocateur / sassyNpunk giveaway, miss Hayley Brazier. She won two custom Cupcake Provocateur necklaces made by sassyNpunk + a gift certificate! Be jealous!

Now, since it's the season for goodwill and all that, i've decided to spread some of my own holiday cheer by officially announcing that all orders made in December will come with a free special something included. I can't tell you what the freebies are b/c that would be no fun! All i can say is that the more you spend, the better freebie you will get. Sooo get shopping people! This is definitely the last week we can make any sort of guarantees that your orders will arrive by the 24th, so don't wait until the last second and then go blaming us because you ruined Christmas!!

On another note, if you participated in our blogging for freebies program last month, please be patient. This is a very busy time of year, but i assure you all that your stuff will arrive soon! Just make sure you have given us your mailing address already to prevent any further delay.

Airborne Unicorn Necklace

This is a very special necklace  inspired by the creator of Lime Crime Cosmetics, miss Doe Deere. Everything she does is pure magic, and sassyNpunk wanted to express our gratitude to her by dedicating this one of a kind piece to Doe and her company! It glows in the dark, so you know it has to be magic! Miss Doe Deere herself gave us her seal of approval ;)
This is a limited addition piece, so grab it while you can!

DIY modern paper ornament

I love spiky starburst shapes, so I attempted a version of the traditional Polish porcupine ball. Here's how to make this cool 3D ornament—great for Christmas or decorating any time. I can imagine jumbo sized versions hanging at parties or weddings. They take awhile, though, so you'd better start making them five years before you plan to get married.

You'll need: Paper, scissors, a circular object for a template, a ruler, pencil, needle, thread, rubber band, and glue.

1. Cut out ten paper circles, using a jar lid or CD for a template. (My circles are 5" in diameter. I stacked sheets of computer paper and cut out several circles at once.)

2. In each circle, cut eight evenly spaced slits toward the middle, stopping about a half inch from the center point.

3. With a pointed pen or sharp pencil, curl each tab into a cone and secure with a dot of glue. If you can pull off a tightly rolled perfect point, congratulations. I was running a little low on patience and settled for "sort of pointy," which I think also looks nice.

4. Cut two small pieces from a wide rubber band. These will hold the ornament together at each end.

5. Thread a needle and knot the ends of the thread together. String on one of the rubber band pieces.

6. Push the needle through the centers of five stars with their flat sides face down. Turn over the remaining five stars so their flat sides are facing up and thread them on, followed by the second rubber band piece.

7. With a chopstick or pencil, push down on the rubber band to compress the stars into a ball while pulling upward on the string with your other hand. The rubber should hold the stack together without requiring a knot. Adjust the paper cones as needed to make a pleasing shape.

8. Tie a loop in the thread for hanging if desired.

From Miss Tiffany Dover in Arkansas:

Just wanted to share this with you all and say how one of your items means a lot to me and a family close to me. Their daughter Hannah was killed in a car accident in 2006 and her favorite things were rainbows. She always told people how she'd see them on the other side of the rainbow one day...well I saw your over the... rainbow necklace and it immediately made me think of sweet Hannah. So I posted it on Hannah's moms facebook for her to see...she loved it so much! She just now or is going to order one and I plan on ordering one and hanging it from my rear view mirror as a reminder of our missed Hannah.

My coaster project at Design*Sponge

I've got a DIY tutorial up at Design*Sponge today: coasters made from vintage postage stamp images. A quick and easy handmade gift idea, perhaps? Click over to the site to get the instructions along with a printable PDF for making your own.

I should add: I wondered how colorfast these would be, so I soaked one in a bowl of water for an hour. No bleeding occurred. I've been using them for weeks now, and they still look good.

Brand New Excitement!

I figured now would be a good time to update everyone on sassyNpunk news since quite a bit has been happening these last few weeks. To start off, i'll reiterate what i stated in my last post, which was basically letting customers know that shipping will be slower this time of year, so get your orders in ASAP!!

Now on to the fun stuff... if you've been to sassyNpunkBoutique.com lately, you'll notice we have incorporated two new sections into our store. The "candy shop" section is just a way for customers to narrow their choices down a bit and make shopping a little easier. It's pretty self explanatory, all of our sweet/dessert themed products will be listed under this category, so i hope that you guys are utilizing that particular feature.

The other section we added is called the "beauty lounge" and I am sooo excited about the new products we are stocking! Lime Crime Cosmetics is our supplier and we are super excited to be able to share these goodies with you! Not only is the makeup itself super fun, but so is the packaging! Unicorns, glitter, rainbows....what girl doesn't like that?! Lime Crime is super chic and very highly reviewed! If you'd like to look into their company more just pop over to their website to read lots of testimonials and press coverage.
