A Tour of Hello Kitty's House

Sanrio Puroland is the Sanrio themepark in Tama, Tokyo, Japan. It opened in 1990 and is home to everybody's favorite cartoon cat, Hello Kitty!
This is an real size house equipped with bath and bedroom! Pretty impressive compared to Disney World's very disappointing gift shop castle. Visitors can actually walk through kitty's pink 2 story brick house.

New Hello Kitty Shoes from Vans

Have you checked out the new Hello Kitty Vans collection on www.sanrio.com? Totally cute, and the price is right too! It's the perfect shoe for summer! However, if you're planning on wearing these...make sure you tone down your outfit. These shoes are already pretty loud, so just jeans and a t-shirt is all you need to wear with these sneakers. You don't want to look like a walking circus! Pulling these off may be a bit of a challenge for some, but if you know what you're doing they can be the perfect kawaii accessory.

Hello Kitty Pink House

This is the Hello Kitty Pink House in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. I'm not completely sure, but it looks to be a restaurant and gift shop. Anyway, it's very cool! Why don't they have cool things like this in America!!

Hello Kitty Hotel

According to my source, this hotel is in Taiwan, Hsingchu. This small town is an hour's drive from the Taipei City of Taiwan. The hotel was opened in July 2008. It is a 2,000 sq. ft. townhouse with three bedrooms. Supposedly you have to book for a stay 3 months in advance.

DIY: make your own Hello Kitty cookie cutters / stencils

You can search high and you can search low, but sometimes the cookie cutter you want is simply not in existence.
Making your own custom shaped cookie stencil is pretty self-explanatory and I’m sure there are plenty of ways to do it, but here’s a quick step-by-step, peppered with one or two wisdoms I’ve gained from some failed and ugly cookies.

For this cookie, I only wanted her head. Sorry Kitty, may your soul rest in peace.
When I don’t conveniently have the physical printed image of a shape I want to make on hand, I just turn off all the lights in the room and trace an image straight off of my laptop screen.  A regular 8.5″ x 11″ paper does just fine, but cardstock is too thick.
It’s also important that you back your stencil with cardstock or some other thick paper so that you can lean your knife against it the edge without it crinkling up and generally #$!@ ing it all up.
Going around the edge of the stencil, I like to STAB, not DRAG the knife.  The dough tends to stick to the tip of the knife and dragging causes little rips in the dough (see below). Stabbing results in a much cleaner cut.
The top kitty was dragged. The bottom kitty was stabbed.  Sorry for the morbid descriptions.

You would think small imperfections like that would disappear in the oven, but it it doesn’t.  You can always try to smooth the edges with your fingers before they go in the oven, but I like to take preventative measures against tedious tasks like that.

And there it is!
