DIY Pantone chip magnets

I try to keep loose Pantone chips in an envelope for future projects, but these nice colors escaped and attached themselves to my file cabinet. Oops.

If you happen to own a Pantone chip book or can beg a few chips from someone you know, here's how to whip up some little candy-like magnets.

Cut small pieces of bookboard or other thick cardboard with an X-acto knife. (Bookboard is likely available at your local art store or PaperSource.) Make the pieces exactly the size of the Pantone chips. Then paint the edges white; I used acrylic paint for this.

Attach the chip to the cardboard. I tried using wet glue, but it made the chip curl. So instead I covered the back of each chip with double-stick tape which worked great.

Then cover the face of the chip with paper glaze. It dries with a clear, raised glass-like surface. There are a few products on the market; I used Aleene's Paper Glaze. Let it dry overnight.

Finally, attach a magnet to the back. I used a roll of self-adhesive magnet material, but you could use something stronger, or cut up those promotional magnets you get sometimes from companies.

Couture Fail

I usually post about awesome shops on the sassyNpunk blog, but today i decided to shake it up and do a post about some shops that just don't impress me or anyone i know. The lucky winner for today is New York Couture. Now, I don't know how cool you have to be to wear these clothes, but if this is what cool is... then consider me a loser and proud of it! I don't get these clothes... where would you wear this stuff? Why would you wear this stuff? And most importantly, who would pay to wear this stuff? Apparently a lot of people ( the scary part of this story )
I'm sorry New York Couture, but you do not get the sassyNpunk seal of approval =(

Look this good for just $95
Take a trip to the 80s for just $75
Giant baby clothes only $120

I know i'm a little late on this, but at least I got around to it eventually. These adorable kitty lipsticks are part of Paul & Joe's autumn winter 2010 collection. I love love love these lipsticks! I want every shade... not so much for the color, but because they are just so damn cute! Even if you're not a feline lover, you have to admit, these are pretty awesome! You can get your hands on one online at Urban Outfitters for $25.

Make origami boxes shaped like candies

I tried making these little paper boxes shaped like candies, designed by Makato Yamaguchi. They're a project in a Toyo origami kit for boxes shaped like various sweets. Each candy half is one sheet of folded paper; one end fits inside the other to form a container. You can watch Heather's nice video tutorial right here on YouTube. Collapsing the candy ends is tricky, but I'm improving with practice!

DIY jewelry display

This awesome and affordable jewelry display comes courtesy of our friends at Paper Sparrow! wuhuu! This is such a cute idea. I'm seriously going to try this out cause I desperately need one! I'm too ashamed to post pics of my studio b/c it's always a mess with supplies and unfinished packages everywhere. This would be a great way to sort my finished and unfinished pieces... a separate display for each!

"The project was super cheap and really easy, it just took some time to find the right frame and the right sticks.  $1 for the frame at my local hospice shop, what a deal.  Two sticks form the park, free.  Push-pins I already had (free, sorta)  Paint and hot-glue gun, had that too.  If you'd like to see the tutorial (although, its pretty self-explanatory) its on Cut Out and Keep."

rainbow pudding fun!

Is this the most fun pudding you've ever seen, or what? Who wouldn't love eating this...but it's almost too pretty to eat! Super cute recipe for Double Rainbow Pudding below:

Ingredients

5.1 oz box vanilla instant pudding, prepared per package directions
red, yellow, blue, green and purple liquid food coloring
whipped topping and rainbow sprinkles, for garnish

Directions

1. Separate the prepared pudding into 6 individual bowls.

2. Add 2 drops of food coloring to each bowl to make the rainbow colors. For orange, use one drop yellow and one drop red.

3. Layer the pudding by adding 2 tbsp of the first pudding color into four small, thin parfait glasses (about 8 oz volume works well). Tap the bottom of your parfait glass gently on the counter after each layer to make the layer flatten. Repeat with remaining pudding colors.

4. Refrigerate per the pudding package directions, until fully set.

5. Immediately before serving, top with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles.
